Isn't She Lovely
The moment we all been waiting for.... your favorite star crossed lovers have finally caught each others attention at the Capulet feast in Act 1.5.
Poor Romeo, such a hopeless romantic who fell so deeply in love with whom he thought was the love of his life, Rosaline. However, the feeling wasn't mutual. Rosaline basically kicked Romeo to the curb. His several attempts of winning over his "dream girl" such as, "loving terms, assailing eyes, and saint seducing gold" literally made no difference in Rosaline's feelings for Romeo, she clearly does not want him. This is where Benvolio comes in and saves the day with his advice which unexpectedly took a positive turn in Romeo's love life. Benvolio notices that Romeo is moping over a girl who he obviously has no chance with. Benvolio tells Romeo to "examine other beauties" (1.1 236), but Romeo refuses to listen. In his eyes, nobody can't compare to Rosaline. Benvolio disagree's with Romeo's opinion and states, " I'll pay that doctrine or else die in debt" meaning get over it or die trying. I mean, there is a whole lot of truth to Benvolio's statements if you really think about it, but no judgement over here. Romeo attends the Capulet feast, however he is still skeptical about finding another beauty because he personally thinks Rosaline is the most beautiful woman he has ever laid eyes on. Eventually, Romeo proves himself wrong.
Everything happens for a reason, Romeo's failure to win over Rosaline led him to his one true love, the one and only Juliet. Romeo see's Juliet at the feast and immediately falls in love. Romeo's interaction with Juliet is what we would call fate. As he first lays eyes on Juliet, he is struck by her beauty, Romeo says "she doth teach the torches to burn bright" which describes Juliet as a source of light. Now that Romeo is head over heals for Juliet, Rosaline is out of the picture, like who is Rosaline anymore? Romeo is so infatuated by Juliet that he states, "For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night"(1.5 60), even though he was so madly in love with Rosaline right before the feast but hey thats his buisness not mine. Romeo and Juliet's first interaction is the real definition of love at first sight. Romeo approaches Juliet with his flirty words such as "holy shrine" (1.5 105) as well as requesting a kiss but Juliet does nothing but tease him at first. Romeo then convinces Juliet to kiss him, and she agrees.
After Romeo finds his true love, he surely was overwhelmed with joy which certainly left him listening to "The Way You Look Tonight" by Frank Sinatra. Sinatra "feels a glow" thinking about his dream girl, as well as Romeo when he is struck by Juliet's beauty during their first interaction, he is overly amazed by Juliet. Sinatra falls in love with the most perfect person in his eyes. Throughout the song Sinatra states "And the way you look tonight, yes you're lovely". Romeo and Sinatra literally had the same experience since Romeo instantly fell in love with his dream girl. Sinatra expresses that the woman he met, is the most perfect and she is the only thing he loves. Clearly, Romeo shares the same feelings when he says, "Beauty too rich for use, for Earth too dear", implying that Juliet is so beautiful, her beauty is too good for this world. We all know that Romeo immediately fell in love with Juliet, when he says " did my heart love till now?" so when Sinatra says, " there is nothing for me but to love you", Romeo could really relate to this because of how madly in love he was. Although Romeo is in love with Juliet, things take a turn when he finds out which family she comes from.
